Complete College America

As part of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education's partnership with Complete College America, NSU has implemented several initiatives designed to increase the number of degree and certificate completions.

Focus on College Readiness

  • Educational Talent Search: NSU partners with area school districts to provide access to post-secondary education, information, career development, and academic support to students in 16 school districts in northeastern Oklahoma.
  • Concurrent Enrollment: Concurrent enrollment allows academically qualified K-12 juniors and seniors to enroll in college-level courses while still in high school. Students can enroll in classes on the Tahlequah campus or at several area high schools where college courses are taught at the district site. All courses are taught by NSU faculty. In addition, high school students in the Tulsa metropolitan area can take TCC courses at NSU-BA.
  • Mathematics Readiness: NSU serves as a learning site for professional development for K-12 mathematics teachers. Higher education mathematics faculty work with K-12 partners to strengthen mathematics outcomes for all students. NSU faculty and mathematics educators provide tutoring services at NSU-BA for K-12 students in the Tulsa metropolitan area.

Transform Remediation

  • Co-Requisite Remediation: NSU offers co-requisite, supplemental instruction labs that allow students requiring remediation in mathematics or composition to enroll in college-level course work while receiving additional support to improve their skills. Co-requisite courses have lower withdrawal rates and higher pass rates than traditional remediation models.
  • Course Placement Measures: In fall 2018, NSU expanded course placement measures in mathematics to include a high school GPA of 3.25. as a tertiary placement measure, thus allowing more students to enroll in college-level courses.

Strengthen Pathways to College Certificates and Degrees

  • Prior Learning Assessment: Students may earn credit for prior learning gained from work and life experiences, non-degree granting institutions of professional training, military training, or open source learning. Prior learning assessment include standardized examinations, individual portfolios, institutionally prepared assessments, technical training assessments, or armed forces transcripts.
  • Reverse Transfer: NSU provides its partner community colleges a list of transfer students who enrolled, but lack an associate's degree. These colleges then contact students who can transfer coursework back to the community college and earn their associate's degrees.
  • Associate in Applied Science to Bachelor's Degree: NSU offers a Bachelor of Technology degree which provides a bachelor's degree pathway to students who earn a AAS degree based on technical training. Students complete a specific program of student based on career goals and previous training.

Increase Adult Degree Completion

  • Reach Higher Flex Finish: NSU offers the Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership degree program online. Students who have prior college credit and a GPA of 2.0 or higher can participate in this program which offers eight-week classes and five enrollment periods per year.
